12th May 2024: Over<\/strong> 50 boda boda investors operating along Enterprise Road in Nairobi received upskilling training and sensitization on road safety, as well as safety riding gear, courtesy of Isuzu EA Foundation. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The initiative which took place at the Isuzu EA plant, targets to equip boda boda investors across the country with the necessary skills to reduce the number of crashes, fatalities, and injuries on Kenyan roads. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

This comes amidst the rising number of boda boda accidents, with the sector reporting approximately 1,970 crashes earlier in the year.  <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Speaking during the forum, Isuzu EA Sustainability, Monitoring and Evaluation Manager, Dr. Michael Musyoka, highlighted that the foundation\u2019s primary objective was to ensure the boda  boda investors operate within the law and at the same time contribute to their overall wellness as part of its community outreach program. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cAs a key player in the automotive industry, we are committed to playing a critical role in limiting motorcycle crashes through upskilling and sensitizing riders across the country on road safety,\u201d<\/em> <\/em><\/strong>said Dr. Musyoka.<\/em> <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The riders were taken through a comprehensive classroom and practical training, creating awareness on the safety regulations that they should adhere to while on the road.  Furthermore, they were taken through an emergency response session, which detailed how to provide medical aid to casualties in cases of crashes.  <\/p>\n\n\n\n

During the forum, the boda boda investors got a chance to share some of the key challenges they encounter while plying their trade.  They also participated in a competitive session on motorcycle maneuvering skills, where the qualifiers were awarded state of the art helmets. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The National Police Service was represented by Senior Superintendent Boniface Otieno, Divisional Traffic Officer (DTO) in charge of Road Safety, Nairobi Metropolitan Region, who underscored the significance of observing traffic regulations by boda boda riders; adding that the training was timely and critical to address the rising number of crashes in the sector. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

On his part, Victor Nyamweya, the Chairman of the Isuzu Enterprise Road Stage Boda Boda Investors, lauded the move by Isuzu EA Foundation, saying, the sensitization will contribute towards instilling discipline on roads among the riders. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cThe number of riders on our roads is on a solid rise and observing road rules and minding fellow road users is the only way we can make the most out of our riding experiences, whether one is riding for leisure or as a source of income,\u201d<\/em> he said.<\/em> <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Also present were National Traffic Police Inspector Teddy Muteti Maingi, who oversees Road Safety Date and Statistics, Nairobi Metropolitan Region, Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) Nelson Wafula and NTSA Certified Instructor John Gakonyo from Inked Bikers. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Through training on road safety regulations and the provision of necessary safety gear including helmets and reflector jackets, Isuzu EA Foundation aims to significantly contribute to reducing road accidents involving boda bodas. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The foundation aims to educate riders and participate in various sensitization campaigns to highlight road safety as one of the core social impact pillars. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
